Just Some Thought

As I was sitting in the car looking out the window heading to Valdosta, Geogia my mom's cell phone rings. The call's for me. I answer. It's the one and only Jody Davis. He asked me a few things. The most important being, "So do you want me to tell you where you are going, or do you want to wait until Christmas?" Of course my heart started beating super fast. He proudly announced, "Your going to Belgium." And that's when a HUGE smile lite across my face. Belgium, Belgium, Belgium. How lucky am I, to get a country of my choice? That's when I teased my mom saying "HAHA, I know where I'm going and you don't." Man I think she was just as happy as I was. The funny thing is that Belgium was just a last pick. It wasn't anything all that special but, hey they have AMAZING chocolate and some of the world's best beer. HAHA. Just kidding mom. But, after that I just had to call everyone and let them know what was going on. Right now I've just been busily getting my paper's signed and patiently but, VERY anxiously awaiting the first outbound orientation. I want to see who else got in :) But, that is all for now. I'll blog next time somthing else exciting happens.

The Little Things

So last night it was about 10pm. I was laying in my bed getting ready for bed then I relized that I hadn't checked the rotary website in like a week so I had to get on. I jumped on and sawing new journals! I was so excited! Renee is an outbound in Belguim right now and she said

"I was sort of disappointed that I wasn’t there for interviews to see the faces of the interviewees after each room. There is so much I wish I could say to them. I wish I could tell them that all the skeptical looks the Rotarians give them is just because they are evaluating if they can handle you as their future child or not and that Jody doesn’t REALLY care if you know all the states from Florida to New York and that it's not crucial for you to know 67 X 3 in order for you to be a wonderful exchange student. I’m living proof, honest! I wish I could tell them that Rotary won’t disappoint them with their country assignment. If they didn’t get their first choice, it’s because Rotary sees greater potential growth in another country and that no matter where they go, they will have the time of their life. I want them to know that it’s okay to get discouraged and have five million different emotions and outlooks on their future adventure. I would tell them to make sure they paid attention during all of the “make a square” games because it’ll come back to help them in their exchange more than once. I want them to know how important it is to bond as an outbound class; because those people are going to be their lifeline and will eventually become their best friends. But above everything else, I want them to know that Rotary has their heart and soul into making their exchange a worthwhile one and they wouldn’t send you across the world if they thought you were going to fall on your face."

Whoah I wish I would of known that before! But, it's all still completly mind boggeling. I still can't get over it. So everythings just crazy. My first Orientation is in about 3 weeks! Wow I am so stoked! Word's don't even explain it. :) LATER ON ;)

Acceptance

So today was the big day. The beginning to my journey. I came home from school today. I finally got my letter in the mail that I was accepted to be an exchange student with Rotary for the 2009-2010 school year. All I could do was cry. I was shaking as I ran outside to tell Dana that I had gotten accepted. I immediately called my mom. She had been waiting all week for the phone call. She said she didn't even want to answer the phone when she saw my number. She answer and all she heard was me crying. She thought Oh man she didn't get it. But, as I was crying I finally got out that "Mom I got accepted." It was probably one of the happiest moments of my life. Even typing this is making me cry. After the horrid application process and the horrible interviews I thought to myself that I just embarrassed the crap out of myself but, I guess that I was wrong. I don't find out my country for a few more weeks. Hopefully before Christmas. But, I have a long year ahead of me to plan this crazy adventure out. I have my first outbound orientation on January 9-11th in Leesburg, Florida. I thank God for answering mine and everyone else's prayers. This is such a once in a lifetime deal. Later ;)
